The Biomechanics of the Female Body

Men and women have different bodies. This is not the same as saying one is better than the other; they are equal, but not the same. When most weight machines at the gym have been designed on the average man (height, size, range of motion), this becomes problematic for the female body. In this session, we are going to discuss 5 key structural differences between men and women, and how we can modify our movement prescription to better “fit” the female body. The goal is to increase your female client’s comfort while weight training, increase the weight she can lift safely, and decrease the risk of injury and niggly irritations that she experiences.

In this session you can expect:

  • To more deeply understand the Q Angle; how and why women are more vulnerable to ACL and other ligament injuries, and how this may affect your coaching of lower body exercises.
  • To more deeply understand the Carrying Angle, and how this might affect how you train upper body movements
  • To identify rib cage and sternum differences, and understand how this may impact her chest and upper body exercise.
  • To identify how a female pelvis differs from a man’s; how and why they’re more vulnerable to specific kinds of pelvic injuries.

Joining us in the Module is Kayla, physio, women’s health coach, mentor, and business coach. She’s also the founder and director of the Australian Women’s Physiology and Training university.
