Training Women

Personal trainers get in to the fitness industry because they want to help people. Either fitness has changed their life, and they want to pass it on, or they’ve always been fit and sporty and want to share their love. However, many trainers do not have the appropriate qualifications or awareness of women’s bodies, and how they differ from men’s, to truly train them to their full potential. In fact, sometimes the opposite is true and the training provided to a women has a detrimental effect – which will impact her, in some cases, forever.

As we will demonstrate, there are some series health issues that affect a disproportionate number of women, including pelvic dysfunctions in nulliparous women (women who have not had children). This course aims to “bridge the gap” between traditional personal trainer, male-dominated fitness education (although we acknowledge there’s a nod to pregnancy and post natal health nowadays) and training regular, healthy women. Pregnancy, postnatal, and menopausal populations are another kettle of fish that we encourage you to get a specialist qualification.

Learning Outcomes:
• How to modify your screening process to target issues that affect a disproportionate number of women (not necessarily in comparison to men).
• An understanding of common health problems that affect predominately women.
• An understanding of how to tweak your training processes to accommodate women with one or more of the above issues.
• How women’s physiology differs to men’s – and how this affects your training decisions.
• The menstrual cycle – and how to match your training to each women’s individual rhythms to enhance your results.
