Visualisation and Activation of the Pelvic Floor

The pelvic floor is the one muscle group that we, as trainers, cannot see, cannot touch, and have to rely 100% on what a client is feeling. The pelvic floor and deep core muscle group is 14 distinct muscles through 5 layers of the pelvis, and is vital for basic human functions. So how do we train this muscle group in our female clients? In this session we’ll show you how to sync the pelvic floor with the other muscle groups in the body, and how to tell if it’s not working.

This course is for trainers who:

  • Recognise that 1 in 3 of their female clients will be training with some form of pelvic dysfunction.
  • Know that pelvic floor dysfunction is an issue with women, but don’t know where to start rebuilding it.
  • Train female clients.
  • Have realised that elite athletes carry over double the risk of pelvic dysfunction than general populations, and in the case of crossfit athletes, three times the risk, and want to defy those odds in their business.
  • Want the very best health outcomes for their female clients.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learn where to start with your clients after having completed their deep core and pelvic floor assessments.

  2. Work through a graded, logical, and progressive pathway to get your client from lying down and doing kegals, to standing and with good pelvic floor function.

  3. Devise a number of strategies, including visualisation and activation, to connect with the pelvic floor and deep core muscles.

  4. Recognise some common signs that she’s one of the 50% of women’s who are “bearing down” rather than “lifting up” her pelvic floor.

  5. Recognise when to refer to a women’s health physio.
