Eating Disorders Across the Female Lifespan

An eating disorder is not a choice, it is a serious mental illness. Eating disorders affect about 16% of Australians1. The development of an eating disorder is multifaceted, and risk factors include2:

  • a family history of eating disorders
  • being an overweight child
  • getting your period before the age of 12 years old
  • displaying a low self-esteem
  • are neurodiverse
  • have experience trauma or abuse or bullying
  • being a young woman, and/or non-binary3

Learning Outcomes:

  • Increase awareness around eating disorders and how they present.
  • Learn about the different kinds of eating disorder.
  • Develop the protocols to work with a client who lives with an eating disorder.
  • Move your business towards more mentally healthy messaging and practises.
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of an eating disorder.

1CEC/CPD with AusActive and NZREPS, this course will take 1-2hrs to complete.

This course is for trainers who:

  • Want to move their business model away from aesthetics, appearances, fat loss, and body size.
  • Understand that how a client looks, nor how much they weigh, are modifiable behaviours, and as such shouldn’t be used for goal setting or measures of success.
  • Want to guide their female clients towards physical, emotional, hormonal, and mental health
  • Currently work with women 25yrs of age or younger
  • Want to expand their awareness around women’s health issues.
